Tips For A Unique Hawaii Wedding

Wendy Hammond & Mark Vondemkamp

"I had always dreamed of a wedding in Hawaii at the Grand Wailea Chapel," says bride Wendy Hammond. "Mark and I both wanted to make our wedding a vacation to spend time with family and close friends, and what better place than Maui!"

The week prior the event, the wedding party spent time together taking in the sites and relaxing on the beach. The ladies in the group gathered for a luncheon at Nanea ao Kula, and toured the lavender gardens in upcountry Kula. The same day, the men headed out to sea on a private charter for a day of sportfishing.

To prepare for the wedding, the ladies relaxed in the luxury of Spa Grande, while the gentlemen enjoyed a round of golf. A rehearsal dinner at the Sea Watch restaurant in Wailea topped off the pre-wedding activities. A fabulous menu of fresh island fish and local delicacies left the entire wedding party completely delighted.

The wedding day arrived all too quickly. Light poured in through the stained glass windows of the chapel, casting a brilliant rainbow of colors over the bride and groom. A fragrant garland of maile and tuberose lined the path to the altar. Wendy's dream came true as she and Mark exchanged vows to become man and wife in the small chapel by the sea.

The festivities continued just a few minutes away at the Four Seasons Resort Wailea. A grand buffet table announced the wedding theme, with a glittering starfish ice sculpture by local artist Sean Kaumeheiwa. Tables shimmered in the moonlight aglow with candles and laced with roses of coral and cream. Surrounded by their loved ones, Wendy and Mark both agree it was a fairy tale dream come true.
